So, after spending all of yesterday bawling my eyes out and cursing my stepdad, I talked to my stepbro who actually knew which shelter stepdad dropped Merls off at.

I called them and his name wasn't ion the list, but in case someone else had dropped her off, I decided to go down there (it was waaaaay out of the way). And Merlin wasn't there and I talked to the nice ladies and got some advice etc.

I was pretty furious at this point since none of it was adding up, so I called my stepdad for the 100000th time today and finally he just yelled that he didnt give her up but that she ran out on Wednesday night after beign put in a car by him for being too noisy during her heat. He just didn't want to have to look for her? Or worry Ola and Michelle?

So: stepdad is not necessarily a terrible person, just kind of a shitty ass parent (nothing new here).

I'm making LOST CAT fliers/posters right now to put up and drop off in mailboxes all over the neighbourhood.

I hope she comes back. Thank you all for your support, seriously, you've been so fantastic, I can't even begin to explain - your words of encouragement mean a lot ♥

If anyone has any advice/stories about cats who went missing while in heat - share, also tips on making effective posters? THANK YOU!

Cats roam around at night, so that's a good time to look for her or call for her.

If there are any hiding spots around your home, that she could have crawled into (under porches, etc), check there. Often cats come back, but find a nice place outside to hang out.

If you give her treats, rattle them around, call to her like you're going to give her a treat.

Give her stuff to smell her way home. Her bedding or even your unwashed clothes. Get your smell around the house so she can catch it, if she is lost. If it's not dangerous, try walking around barefoot.

Get her photo to all of the local shelters, in case someone brings her in.

While you're looking for her, I'll be thinking positive thoughts for her return!

ETA: Oh. and she's probably out looking for a male. So if you know of any un-neutered male cats in your area, contact their owners. They may have seen her.

This is super informative, btw, thank you! <3

She'll probably come back pregnant ::facepalm::

If you take her to get fixed right away you can fix that.

Hmmm....I had a cat (Merlin, actually) who went missing once for four days. I was worried he wouldn't come back, but he did.

Do you have a phone number to put on the flyer other than one that goes to your house? It sounds like you might not want your Dad to get that phone call.

You could always try keeping some dry food outside. Although the problem with this is it will attract more than just Merlin, but other cats and such. Although it wouldn't be forever, just until you find her!

Keep an eye out under porches and parked cars. Cats like to hunker down when they are scared.

<3!!!

Thanks! I put a bowl of food out and the number on the poster/flyer is my cell, so no worries about miscommunication there!

Glad to hear that he didn't intentionally give her away, although I don't know why he didn't just say that from the beginning. But that's not important. What's important here is finding Merlin. Is it possible to give the local shelters Merlin's description and photo so that if she gets found by someone who hasn't seen the flyers and sent to the shelter, they can contact you or at least not adopt her away or anything drastic?

I'll try calling the shelter tomorrow and seeing what'll happen. It's not likely they'd just give her away tho, considering she's not spayed and possibly pregnant...

There's really nothing I can add that Ker hasn't already covered, but one thing I did in addition to the "treats call" is make distinct sounds that I knew my guy recognized (ie: Opening a can of tuna or making a huge production of banging his can of food against a bowl, etc etc). The echo of the sound carried pretty far, and Scooby (my cat at the time) could hear it from several hundred feet off (and would come running).

Ditto on checking under parked cars and porches, but be sure to check beneath thickets or bushes as well. Sometimes the mud under there is dry, and when Morgana escaped once, she was under a bush.

Sending more positive thoughts your way. ♥ I hope your girl is in your arms soon.

Hee, our cats' sound is two plastic bowls clicking against each other. I walked around our neighbourhood a bit doing that, and I put fliers into people's mailboxes and put out some food.

Chipmunk's in heat now, too and she ran out as I was putting out some food and I was like OMFGMADDASHINSOCKSINTOTHERAIN after her but she's sleeping now.

We'll walk around tomorrow getting the other side of our area.

Thanks for the positive thoughts bb :)

When my cousin's cat went missing, he put food outside for her at the regular time every day, and she did come back.

I really hope Merlin comes back, too. ♥

Sorry for creepy anon posting, but as a cat owner, I gotta say, keep the faith. I moved to my own place and my cat went missing after three days. I did EVERYTHING. Finally, after about two weeks, he was there one morning, crouching under my car - apparently he recognized that.

SA

My boy cat was neutered but it happened relatively late in his lifespan. I had been told that as a result, some behavior would not be unlearned, ie wanderlust. Vet was right.

Thanks, I really hope she comes back. When she does, I'm going to register her and set up an appt to get her spayed...or checked for babies...
